Welcome to the 2025 Girls* on Ice Aotearoa New Zealand application! Our expedition will run 13 - 23 January 2025.
Thank you for taking the time to share who you are with us.
Who We Are
Girls* on Ice Aotearoa is part of Inspiring Girls* Expeditions, a tuition-FREE program for teen girls* that interweaves field science, art, and outdoor exploration. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive experience where participants of different races, ethnicities, heritages, gender identities, faiths, economic statuses, and geographic settings are learning together.
*Our history began as an organisation seeking to create space for girls and women to grow and thrive in historically male-dominated fields. Today, Inspiring Girls* Expeditions welcomes cisgender girls and transgender, agender, nonbinary, intersex, and genderqueer youth.
Who We’re Looking For
Please read our Essential Eligibility Criteria (NZ) before moving forward, which describes the requirements for our expedition.
An expedition team of ten participants is selected through an application process that asks applicants to reflect on their sense of self, abilities, interests, and curiosities. We believe a diversity of experiences, passions, family life, and perspectives will create a stronger, more insightful team.
We are looking for participants who identify and/or demonstrate allyship with communities historically excluded from science, art, and outdoor spaces. Please see our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement on our website. Ideal participants will communicate their current passion for science, the arts, outdoor skills, or another aspect of their life. We also seek participants who may not have had comparable opportunities or mentorship and who share how Inspiring Girls* Expeditions may be particularly transformative for them.
Girls* on Ice Aotearoa is open to girls* living in New Zealand, who will be 15 or 16 on 1 January 2025.
What to Expect
Our expedition starts and ends in Wellington, but for the majority of the time we will be living in a ski lodge on Mt. Ruapehu. The first few days will be filled with art and science lessons, and introductions to exploring the maunga (mountain). The later few days will include student-led art and science projects and a longer day (or days) exploring the landscapes. Take a look at our Expedition Itinerary for more details.
How to Apply
Our application contains a series of tasks, all of which must be completed in order to submit your application. To complete a task, click “Mark as Complete” at the bottom of the task. To edit a task you have completed, click the three dots at the top right to find the Edit option, which will reopen the task. You may only make changes to your application before clicking “submit”.
What Happens Next
Once you’ve submitted your application, you can sit back and relax! Our team of program staff and reviewers will read your application, and we’ll let you know if you’ve been accepted. If you are selected for an expedition, we’ll be in touch with information about preparing for your expedition, including completing your enrolment paperwork, arranging your travel, and getting ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! If you are selected as an alternate, we will contact you if a spot becomes available on an expedition team.
Please visit our website, www.inspiringgirls.org/goi-aotearoa-nz, for more information about our expedition.
